By bike through the land of palaces
Explore the diverse palace landscape of Bavaria on two wheels! Magnificent palaces, castles and residences await you along well-developed cycle paths, to give you an ideal combination of culture and nature. We particularly recommend the Franconian Switzerland High Route, which takes you through picturesque scenery with impressive rock formations and historical locations. The Bodensee–Königssee Cycle Route offers a combination of alpine panoramas, lakes and important cultural destinations between Allgäu and Berchtesgadener Land. The delightful Isar Route follows the river from the Alps to the Danube with idyllic riverside scenery and numerous sights along the way.
These tours present Bavaria from exciting new perspectives.

Museum opening in Sanspareil: travel back in time through the Oriental Building, rock garden and Zwernitz Castle
An imposing medieval castle, a Baroque palace in ‘oriental ‘guise and a unique rock garden – Sanspareil takes you on a journey through time and nature.
In the palace, the Oriental Building, you can find out how a shelf in the Jurassic Sea was transformed into a very special palace garden complete with ‘Chinese’ dragons and Greek heroes, and how the Bayreuth margrave and his wife spent their time here. The new museum opens its doors in mid-May and offers natural and cultural history for all the senses. The adjacent rock garden is a fascinating combination of Baroque garden art, natural rock formations and small caves – it’s the perfect place for an excursion.

Our tip: Directly above the rock garden is Zwernitz Castle. Here an exhibition provides interesting insights into the castle’s history and the hunting pursuits of the margraves. From the massive keep there is a panoramic view of the palace, rock garden and Franconian Switzerland.

Trausnitz Castle in Landshut: discover a historical jewel
Notable features of this imposing castle complex, which towers above the old town, are the impressive fortifications, the high Wittelsbach Tower and the castle chapel with important sculptures and altars. The magnificent prince’s rooms and famous Fools’ Staircase with scenes from the Commedia dell'arte are particularly worth seeing.
Also highly recommended is the special exhibition ‘Princely weddings – networks for the future’, which is being shown from 1 May to 2 August 2026 as part of the project WIRKSAM. Frauennetzwerke der Hohenzollern im Spätmittelalter (EFFECTIVE: The female networks of the Hohenzollerns in the Late Middle Ages).

Our tip: Make use of the many different guided tours offered by the Palace Administration; the castle administration also organizes special tours for groups.

The UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Bavarian Palace Administration
The UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Bavarian Palace Administration are fascinating highlights for your cultural tours.
Among them is the Würzburg Residence, greatly renowned as a masterpiece of European Baroque art.
As a former residence of the prince-bishops it is particularly impressive with its magnificent halls and world-famous staircase, as well as the largest ever continuous ceiling fresco, a work by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
The Court Garden is also an outstanding Baroque work of art worth exploring with its terraces, flowerbeds and sculptures.

Our tip: Combine your visit to Würzburg with a guided tour of Marienberg Fortress or an excursion to Veitshöchheim Palace and Court Garden.
